JOHN BARROWMAN - Steve Wright Interview

Earlier today JOHN BARROWMAN was a guest on STEVE WRIGHT IN THE AFTERNOON, broadcast on BBC RADIO 2 and it is presented here in three parts. In the first part John talks about DOCTOR WHO and TORCHWOOD whilst the second part consists of his new single, penned by GARY BARLOW, What About Us? Be warned: this interview contains the ramblings of Steve Wright and his 'posse' with the suggestion that RUSSELL BRAND should play The Eleventh Doctor...

DAVID TENNANT In "The Quatermass Experiment"

BBC4 are to screen THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT on Tuesday 2nd September at 10.30pm. It was first broadcast live in 2005 and also stars fellow DOCTOR WHO star MARK GATISS along with INDIRA VARMA who will be familiar to TORCHWOOD viewers as Suzie.

TORCHWOOD - Series 3 Press Release

Just released is THIS press release for TORCHWOOD Series 3. Confirming what was reported HERE is the casting news of PAUL COPELY. Also starring is PETER CAPALDI, familiar to DOCTOR WHO viewers for his role in THE FIRES OF POMPEII - written by JAMES MORAN who provides one of the scripts for the five~part story, TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH. On next year's series, RTD says:

"This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we've ever made, and we've got plenty of surprises in store."

Executive Producer, JULIE GARDENER adds:

"Joining our main cast are some fantastic guest artists who will only add to making this unmissable TV."

According to THIS article in the NEWS OF THE WORLD, two of the 2009 SPECIALS are to be filmed in the USA. Not only that, but there's also to be an American companion. This "story" also suggests that DAVID TENNANT is moving on after these episodes and that STEVEN MOFFAT "is working on a Doctor Who film". Yup, a slow news day indeed.

MOFFAT - Don't Rule Out DOCTOR WHO Movie!

As part of his stint at the EDINBURGH TELEVISION FESTIVAL, incoming show~runner STEVEN MOFFAT had the following to say on the prospect of a DOCTOR WHO film:

"As long as it was great and fantastic then yeah. But a film is on [for] 90 minutes and that is not as important as the series. But as long as it doesn't get in the way of the show we could do it."

To celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK, the SCI~FI CHANNEL are dedicating three days of programming to DOCTOR WHO. Starting on Saturday you can see some choice stories from the eras of TOM BAKER and PETER DAVISON. There's also a COLIN BAKER tale and the PAUL MCGANN 'moive' thrown in for good measure. Also on UK TV this weekend are the first two episodes of TAKING OVER THE ASYLUM, a television series from 1994 starring DAVID TENNANT (pictured above). Lastly, Sunday 31st August sees a rerun of the first series of THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES. The episodes will be shown as double bills in the afternoon suggesting heavily that the second series will air on Monday 29th September.

TORCHWOOD - Series 3 Cast Update

Filming began on the third series of TORCHWOOD this week and joining the cast is actor PAUL COPLEY (pictured above). He may be familiar to DOCTOR WHO fans as he voiced one of the characters in the seminal SPARE PARTS audio adventure.

DWM 399 News

Here are some tidbits regarding DOCTOR WHO and both its spin off series from the latest edition of DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE, Issue 399.

• NO Children In Need special this year. This puts to bed one of the rumours from THIS post though RTD does say, "... we hope to have some presence on the actual night."

• First special in 2009 is being referred to as the "Easter" special (backing up one of the rumours from the round~up a few days ago). This RUSSELL T DAVIES story is co~written with GARETH ROBERTS and includes a "new monster".

CATHERINE TATE to return? If asked she would "jump at the chance" and "anything is possible".

Series 2 has finished filming and due to hit screens in the UK in "late September". There are 12 episodes comprising of 6 two~parters; one of which is a sequel to an earlier SJA story and and another a sequel to a DW story.

David Tennant as Hamlet

The above caricature of DAVID TENNANT as HAMLET appeared in the 7DAYS supplement that accompanied THE OBSERVER on 10/08/08. There was a review of the play in THE CRITICS supplement that calls his performance a "triumph". A picture accompanied this piece which you can see below left.
