Hugh Bonneville to star in Doctor Who

BAFTA nominated actor Hugh Bonneville is set to star in an upcoming episode of Doctor Who later this year. The actor, most recently praised for his role in ITV1's Downton Abbey, is to play a "pirate captain" and has already tweeted from the TARDIS set, whilst also confirming that a beard is in use.

Hugh is sporting a real beard in the pictures taken at the recent Radio Times Covers Party, so this would seem to explain that.

(Ben Miller has also suddenly grown one, but he insisted on BBC Breakfast that it was not for a role)

His CV states that his character is called Avery....same Pirate Captain Henry Avery who's treasure Pike was after in The Smugglers perhaps? They are filming on the Cornish coast next week aren't they...
