Moffat: Matt Smith is "not going"

Yesterday, at the BFI screening of The Tomb of the Cybermen, Steven Moffat revealed that Matt Smith will be back to work on Doctor Who after his filming stint on How To Catch A Monster. During his introduction of the classic Patrick Troughton story, the current showrunner stated that Matt is "not going" (not leaving the show, that is) and will "be back" after shooting the Ryan Gosling-directed movie.

Smith resumes filming on Doctor Who in April for the 50th Anniversary special, then shoots How To Catch A Monster in May and then returns to the UK to film the 2013 Christmas Special.

So does that mean this year only consists of the 7b and 3 specials? kinda sucks. I'm sure Moffat promised a bumper crop of episodes for the 50th year. Are we no only going to get 14 episodes over 2 years instead of 1?

Oh come on Moffat can at least have multiple episodes for the 50th I mean it's such a big event it should be celibated in style

Agree!... And all the classic episode repeats that Austrslia, New Zealand and States are showing to celebrate the 50th anniversary - a doctor each month, a story each Sunday is a brilliant way to build to the 23rd November - why is there nothing like this from the BBC??
Poor show....

I don't believe you people - he's giving us plenty and the whole 7B is a build up to the anniversary. Give me a break with your bloody entitlement whining!!!!!!!!!!!

3 specials? I think this has been cut down to one special. And that special has been cut in length from 90 minutes to 60!!! Hardly a surprise. Everything Moffat says he seems to back track on.

After 7b series 8 is not until 2014.

Well it seems Moffat will be leaving soon anyway - along with Matt

I've got to be honest, unless we hear some hard facts, I'm really very disappointed with the way New Who has been run. So, we're getting 8 episodes at Easter, woohoo. What about the continuation of the series proper at the end of the year.

Screw a 50th special; I'd rather have a proper season.

IF only this kind of uproar happened when this happened a few years ago before the End of Time sequence... The wagon is gettin' full i guess...

I didn't think Matt was leaving until Moffat said he wasn't. Now I'm CERTAIN he's leaving :P

HI Cerys,

We've not released all our plans for the Doctor Who 50th celebrations yet, because as Steven Moffat has said, we don't want people to get bored before November! Rest assured though that we will be celebrating the anniversary in the true Doctor Who spirit and keep your eyes peeled as you'll hear more announcements about it on our Facebook in the run up.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Rule 1, Moff lies. Remember when he said we'd never be more than a few months from new episodes, and that they were going to increase production in the anniversary year? And what did we get ... leftover series 7 and one anniversary. at 60 minutes. So now that he says Matt is not leaving, I'm feeling like he probably is.
