From no Eccleston or McGann, at least not in any major capacity if at all, to this out of thin air new John Hurt Doctor to the runtime, this has pretty much been a worst case scenario for the 50th. Just a total lack of ambition.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2272431515083873489.post-21846399570234578692013-11-11T15:15:05.319+00:002013-11-11T15:15:05.319+00:00I want to be excited. I really do. I started with ...I want to be excited. I really do. I started with DOCTOR WHO in 1979 at the age of 6. I never thought I would get to see it celebrate its 50th anniversary. I'm thrilled it's still going.

But, with only 10 and 11 (and Eccleston replacement guest-star Hurt) it simply feels like an 8 year anniversary. Including the Zygons is as effective as including the Daleks. Where are the past Doctors?

They aren't "too old" (even setting aside the ageism of some fans, we already have a Moffat-made excuse for aging after TIME CRASH). Five of them are perfectly willing to come back (and I will always wonder what it is the BBC wanted from Eccleston that made him turn it down).

Is there a legal issue here? Can the modern series not have past Doctors appear in the same vein Big Finish can't use anything post-2005 (which makes NO sense, since the audios aren't part of the DW canon and thus can't contradict anything)? Or is it the BBC and the modern producers in charge (Moffat) are terrified of acknowledging the past? Are they afraid of the Classic era because it lacked a budget?

How can you celebrate 50 years of something and only represent the last 8?

I want to be excited. I really, really do. But, at this point, I'm just dreading what Moffat is going to do here. I feel like he's about to jettison the history in favor of "current" or "modern". And if so, then there's no reason to celebrate.

But, guess it all comes out the 23rd of November...Ozzy Baxterhttp://ozbaxter.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2272431515083873489.post-82227058266721137202013-11-11T12:48:55.085+00:002013-11-11T12:48:55.085+00:00It's also using the slightly different theme t...It's also using the slightly different theme tune, so I guess that confirms that the episode should use it too.Carl Waringhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06145318491673627840noreply@blogger.com
